Razz

Loved by many as a fascinating variant of 7 Card Stud, Razz is a version that calls on players to form the lowest hand possible rather than the best. Players therefore need to avoid pairs and picture cards, although flushes and straights don’t count and aces are always low. 5-4-3-2-A is therefore the best hand you can have in Razz.

Razz is one of the oldest versions of the game to feature at the World Series of Poker, having been a WSOP fixture from the start and one of the few (along with Holdem and 7 Card Stud) to still have an event. It survives today as the R in the WSOP’s H.O.R.S.E tournament.

The H.O.R.S.E tournament is a competition that many people believe is a better indicator of the game’s top players, as it tests players’ skills across several different types of poker. So if you want to be considered a true master of the game, practise your Razz.
