At the beginning of July as poker players flocked to Vegas for the WSOP main event, I staggered down the road and played the Fox Club monthly £300. It’s a 2 day event that starts on a Saturday afternoon so it’s perfect for both recreational players and pros looking for a decent payout. 173 entered giving a prize pool of £51,900.
The bad news was I needed to use up the one re-entry allowed….the good news was I managed to final table.
Although starting the FT with above average chips there wasn’t a lot of play available with blinds very high, and unfortunately I was first out as I ran TPTK into aces.
The Fox is a great poker club that’s going from strength to strength, as it now has a £250 comp every Saturday 10k GTD and the monthly main event is now a £400 buy in, 25k GTD.
The beginning of August bought leg 4 of the Genting Poker Series, and my first visit to Stoke. Talk leading up to the event was entries could reach an incredible 500…and it soooo close with 482 and a cool £192,800 to fight for!
A large, buzzing, well organised casino greeted me. In fact it was so well organised it had Christmas menus and booking forms available in the restaurant!
Deja vu from The Fox and my last GPS, meant I needed to use a re-entry halfway through my day 1. Playing loose aggressive to build a stack wasn’t paying off again ...so the safety net was taken and it was back to a more solid game plan. A change of table initially went well. Mostly Stoke regulars and a couple of faces from the circuit, I was comfortable, although always just under average stack. The turning point was about an hour before close when I was AIPF with my Kings against Three’s. A three on the flop, meant a potential 90K pot and cruising into day 2, went out of the window. I was left with a few big blinds and I eventually departed the tournament on the nights penultimate hand. So no luck this time, but very enjoyable, and another greatly successful leg.
Next up on the GPS we have the online leg on 30th Sept. There are great value satellites running most nights on Genting Poker so I intend to get in cheap! Also in the next few months, some big buy tournaments in the UK are scheduled so I’ll be busy trying to qualify for them too.
The poker scene seems really healthy at the moment ...so fingers crossed we can take advantage.
