Someone once told me that bad things happen in threes, or was it good things, it was certainly somethings….
Take a look at “Rookie of the Year” nominee, Barny Boatman. Following his superb performance at EPT San Remo, where he outlasted all but 3 of his opponents, to take home just over $300k, he has not had the best of times. True he cashed in 34th at the Dutch Open, returning him just over the buy in back, but that apart, its been a bit barren for our man.
Firstly there was the GUKPT Grand Final, there I was sat playing a bit of £2/£5 NLHE Cash with the Tournament barely an hour old, when I see the Genting Poker Pro leaving the table and putting his coat on. Asking that awful “Wot Appened?” question, illiciting a reply of “Set Under Set” and like Keyser Soze…he was gone.
Then there is the infamous story of his WPT Dublin exit earlier this month, when raising something 100x the Big Blind due to the 5k chip being pretty much identical to the 100 chip…was pot committed…and had to call the All In…
So we come to the $200k Bounty Tournament last night, Barny representing Genting, with that nice $10,000 Target on his noggin. I login to observe 30 minutes into the tournament only to struggle to find him….until I spot him at the zero chips end of the list. What on earth?
Checking my emails I find out what happened.
Barny is dealt J 10 Diamonds, and flop comes all diamonds, Ace high. A few big raises, a call and his oppo shows Q8…both diamonds. 6k gone.
Few hands later, he is dealt the almost perfect receovery hand, AK…even more perfect when flop comes with a King. Not so perfect when his shove is called by…AA. Good night!
Never mind, better luck next time, Barny will be playing as the Genting Poker bounty on many more occasions, so plenty of opportunity to lock horns in the future.
As for lady luck, he’s also playing the Genting Poker Series Leg 1 on Thursday 2nd Feb, so a chance to see whether the poker worm has turned, or whether it’s still a case of running bad…only one way to find out. Jump in.
